KARACHI: Rangers’ lawyer has submitted copies of terrorists’ treatment bills in accountability court during hearing of former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain’s case on Monday.
The Rangers lawyer has also plead the court to remove investigation officer Altaf Hussain from the case after he has been proved guilty of concealing treatment bills of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists suspected of terrorism.
Dr Asim sought help of a policeman to climb stairs while presenting him before the court.
“False allegations have been levelled on me. I am not satisfied with any one of them. You people better know why I am locked up here,” he said while having informal chat with media.
According to the prosecution, Dr Asim had misused his authority as a federal minister, in collusion of other accused, illegally curtailed gas to the agriculture sector to benefit a particular group associated with the fertilizer industry.
In February, the accountability court hearing a corruption case against Dr Asim had sent him to prison while seeking the investigation report. Apart from terrorists’ facilitation charges, Dr Asim is facing an inquiry into alleged misuse of authority in embezzlement of public money.
On November 30, NAB had sought permission from the anti-terrorism court, where cases against Dr Asim were being heard, to question the former petroleum minister in connection with graft references.
Dr Asim was first arrested on August 26, 2015 on corruption charges and facilitation of terrorists.
