KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday granted protective bail to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Abdul Qadir Patel in Dr Asim case.
Patel, who is currently out of the country for getting treatment, is accused of asking Dr Asim to look after the terrorists, who got injured in clashes with law enforcers or their rivals, at Ziauddin Hospital. The PPP leader through his counsel approached the court seeking the protective bail as according to him he is innocent and had nothing to do with the terrorism.
Patel’s counsel submitted that Rangers authorities has issued his client a call up notice for the investigation in a case of treating the terrorists at Ziauddin Hospital, owned by Dr Asim. The counsel stated that there are contradictions in the FIR and the challan of the case and the entire allegation labeled against his client were baseless. He requested the court to grant protective bail to Patel.
After hearing the arguments, the SHC bench approved his protective bail against the surety bonds of Rs 200,000 for the period of one week.
It is pertinent to mention here that Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had issued arrest warrants against Abdul Qadir Patel for several times but police failed to nab him since he was out of the country.
